For the Developing Student of Chassidut

Basic Chassidut

Through guided study, students develop familiarity with key Chassidic concepts, language, and spiritual frameworks.

Program Overview

The Basic Chassidut course at JETS introduces students to the core texts and foundational ideas of Chassidic thought. The course builds intellectual clarity while nurturing personal reflection and Avodat Hashem.

This course utilizes carefully selected passages and sample texts drawn from Tanya, Likutei Torah, Derech Mitzvotecha, Kuntras Hechaltzu, Kuntras Umaayan, Maamarim Kuntreisim, Basi Legani, and Ve’Atah Tezaveh. Students are introduced to the conceptual language of Chassidut and the structure of Chassidic discourse.

The curriculum emphasizes foundational themes such as the Divine soul and animal soul, bitul and ego refinement, hashgacha pratit, the purpose of mitzvot, dirah betachtonim, emunah, bitachon, and inner spiritual growth. Students learn how Chassidut reframes classical Torah ideas into a cohesive spiritual worldview.

Instruction focuses on guided reading, conceptual mapping, and practical application. Students learn how to identify key terms, trace arguments within a maamar, and translate abstract ideas into lived spiritual awareness.
